Today’s submission to the 50 Favorite Indie Films is from Jonathon, by far our youngest reader and movie lover that I know of! Jonathon is 11 years old and he wants you to consider…
Super
The independent film Super with Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page is a surprisingly intense comedy. After seeing this I am afraid of men with wrenches. Frank (Rainn Wilson) has a drug addict as a wife that is slowly losing interest in him. Finally she leaves for a drug dealer (Kevin Bacon) named Jaques she now does every drug known to human. Frank gets so angry he decides to fight crime. So he sews together crimson fabric and becomes the Crimson Bolt. He studies how to be a superhero without powers in a comic book store. Working at the comic book store is 22 years old Libby (Ellen Page) who really wants to be his sidekick and gets her wish and together they fight crime.
Super is a hilarious, intense movie definitely worth watching.
So say we all, Jonathon. So say we… Well, maybe not “we all”!
Super has also been called:
- Perverted
- Hilarious
- A Mis-fire
- Dark
- An Un-comedy
and much, much more! Any film with reviews this wide and varied is something you’ll just have to check out for yourself.
Only a middle of the road standing for all the regular sites; Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, etc… , this superhero vigilante flick has all the indie film trademarks. The cast worked for scale, keeping the budget to $2M, intense emotion and ridiculous situations that mainstream flicks takes great strides to avoid. You also get a glimpse at director James Gunn before he became the director of Guardians. We all now know Gunn as the mega director whose name is on the tip of all of Hollywood’s tongue these days and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
